Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken pieces (you can use boneless or bone-in, as per your preference)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chillies, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder (adjust according to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing) powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and chopped green chillies. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  5. Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, and asafoetida powder. Mix well and cook the masala until the oil starts to separate from the sides.
  6. Add the chicken pieces to the masala and mix until they are well coated.
  7. Cover the pan and let the chicken cook on low-medium heat for about 15-20 minutes or until it’s tender and cooked through. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  8. Once the chicken is cooked, garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  9. Asafoetida chicken is ready to Serve hot with rice, naan, or roti.
